Videos, engaging lectures, interactive media and research methods are just a few techniques that help faculty advance and improve student learning, and the University of South Alabama explored these methods during the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Institute on June 27-28.  South鈥檚 Innovation in Learning Center and USAonline were coordinators of this event.

鈥淪ummer SoTL aimed to support faculty in improving student outcomes using a framework of scholarly inquiry to inform and guide change in teaching practices,鈥 said Dr. S. Raj Chaudhury, executive director of the Innovation in Learning Center and USAonline. 鈥淧articipants came away with an understanding of the foundations of SoTL in different disciplines, along with research methods, forms of reporting, and a preliminary proposal for an SoTL project.鈥

Dr. Jennifer Friberg, the Cross Endowed Chair in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at Illinois State University, served as a facilitator for the summer institute at South Alabama.

The institute was open to full time and part time USA faculty who are interested in improving and enhancing teaching and learning in their courses using a scholarly approach.
