Engineering Honor Society Tops in Nation

±«³§´¡â€™s engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi, has been named tops in the nation for the second time in three years. The USA chapter received the R.C. Matthews Outstanding Chapter Award at the recent national convention.
The chapter participates in K-12 projects, Jubilee Best Robotics and the Mobile Regional Science & Engineering Fair, volunteers with Boys & Girls Clubs and awards a sophomore scholarship. Other projects include a resume workshop with company representatives from Airbus, Alabama Power, Austal USA, Chevron, GE Renewable Energy, Hargrove Engineers + Constructors, Red Lion Controls and Thompson Engineering.
Officers include President Phiwat Klomkaew, chemical engineering major from Huntsville; Vice President Caleb Barlow, chemical engineering major from Milton, Fla; Corresponding Secretary Tyler Tow, mechanical engineering major from Mobile; Recording Secretary Luis Rodriguez Reveles, mechanical engineering major from Gulf Shores; and Treasurer Yousef Omar, chemical engineering major from Mobile.
Five of the members were awarded national scholarships for this academic year: Chad Austin, computer engineering from Galesburg, Ill.; Olivier Gingras, mechanical engineering from Quebec City, Canada; Benjamin Siu, chemical engineering from Biloxi, Miss.; Klomkaew; and Omar
Tau Beta Pi, the world’s largest engineering honor society, was founded at Lehigh University in 1885. There are collegiate chapters at 246 engineering colleges in the United States and active alumni chapters in 40 cities. More than 584,000 members have been initiated in its 132-year history.
