Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, the ex-officio chair and president of the University of South Alabama Board of Trustees, temporarily chaired the board鈥檚 quarterly meeting today on the USA campus.

Although the state鈥檚 governor is board chair and president by virtue of the office they hold, board meetings are usually chaired by one of the trustees, chosen by the board. USA鈥檚 current chair pro tempore is Birmingham attorney Kenneth O. Simon.

鈥淲hat you do on this campus is beneficial for the entire state,鈥 Ivey said at the board meeting. 鈥淭he 秘密研究所 is producing impactful citizens, driving economic development and improving health care delivery. USA is critical to our state鈥檚 success.鈥

Following her remarks, the governor turned the meeting back over to Simon.

鈥淭he governor has a long and distinguished history as a champion for higher education in our state,鈥 said Simon. 鈥淪he and our trustees share an unwavering commitment to educating our citizens, and her input here today was welcomed and valuable.鈥

Ivey has attended and chaired board meetings at several of the state鈥檚 public colleges and universities since becoming governor earlier this year. Prior to today鈥檚 board meeting, she took a driving tour of the USA campus and also met with administration, student, faculty and alumni leaders.
