USA Elects New Student Government Association Officers

The ÃØÃÜÑо¿Ëù has announced the Student Government Association officer elections for the 2015-2016 academic year. The new officers are the following:
Ravi Rajendra, 21, of Montgomery, Ala., will serve as president. He will succeed current SGA President Danielle Watson. Rajendra is a sophomore majoring in biology in the College of Arts and Sciences and the pre-medicine program in the College of Medicine’s Early Acceptance Program. He is a member of the Honors Program, USA Southerners, Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society, Mortar Board Honor Society, Biology Student Association, and the USA Sustainability Council. Rajendra is also a Whiddon Honors Scholar, Southerner of the Year, Mortar Board Honor Society Freshman Scholarship award recipient, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society member and a member of the President’s List for fall 2013 and fall 2014. He is the son of Sajjan and Usha Rajendra.
Daniel Currie, 21, of Mobile, Ala., will serve as vice president. He is a junior majoring in advertising in the Mitchell College of Business. He is also a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, the College Republicans, and the American Advertising Federation. Currie is also a member of the Charles R. Walgreen Leadership Academy, and was named Top New Member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, 2012-2013. In 2014 and 2015, Ruth’s Chris Steak House named Currie Employee of the Month. He is the son of Keith and Patricia Currie.
Marcus Williams, 20, of Birmingham, Ala., will serve as treasurer. He is a sophomore business and finance major in the Mitchell College of Business. He is a member of the Student Government Association, USA Southerners, Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Abeneefoo Kuo Honor Society, and a member of the Financial Management Association. He is the son of Sheila Brooks.
Trey Davis, 21, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., will serve as attorney general. He is a junior majoring in leisure studies with a concentration in therapeutic recreation in the College of Education. He is a member of the Collegiate 100, the African-American Student Association, Gospel Choir, and the Eta Nu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He is the son of Russell and Terry Davis.
Micah Messer, 21, of Dothan, Ala., will serve as chief justice. He is a junior majoring in information systems in the School of Computing. He is a member of the Army ROTC Color Guard and the Jaguar Joggers. He was named SGA Appropriations Committee Member of the Year for 2013-2014. He is the son of Stephen and Katrina Messer.
Ashley Ford, 21, of Dothan, will serve as student at large. She is a junior majoring in chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences. She is a member of the Women of Excellence, a Jag Pal, and Alpha Epsilon Delta. Ford is the recipient of the SGA Member of the Year for 2013-2014, SGA Rules Committee Member of the Year, 2013-2014, SGA Homecoming Chair for 2014-2015, and a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. Ford also represented the University at the 2014 Conference on Student Government Associations at Texas A&M. She is the daughter of John and Jennifer Ford.
The purpose of the SGA is to protect and advance student interests as well as to promote the welfare of the student body. The organization operates as a constitutional democracy and is comprised of executive, judicial and legislative branches.
Since its founding in 1963, USA has been one of Alabama’s fastest growing universities, currently enrolling 16,000 students in a wide range of academic programs in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions, College of Arts and Sciences, Mitchell College of Business, School of Computing, School of Continuing Education and Special Programs, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Medicine, College of Nursing, Graduate School, and the Auburn University School of Pharmacy at USA. The University has awarded 80,000 degrees.
