Dr. Jasmin Arakawa to Present Piano Recital

The magnetic and musically talented pianist Dr. Jasmin Arakawa will perform and present her faculty piano recital, “Romantic Journey,” at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 in the University of South Alabama Laidlaw Performing Arts Center, which is located on the corner of University Boulevard and USA South Drive.
The program will include Robert Schumann’s Fantasy, op.17; Leopold Godowsky’s Java Suite, selections, and Rebecca Clarke’s Sonata for Viola and Piano with Arakawa’s husband, the internationally known composer and violist Rudolf Haken. Arakawa and Haken have been in Mobile for about one year, and the couple will collaborate and share their talents during this USA Musical Arts Series event.
Arakawa, who is an assistant professor of music at USA, has performed in North America, Central and South America, Europe and Japan. She has also performed at prestigious venues worldwide including Carnegie Hall, Paris’ Salle Gaveau and Victoria Hall in Switzerland.
Tickets will be sold at the door only. Admission is $8 for the general public and $5 for USA faculty/staff, USA students, youths under 18, and all senior citizens. Only cash or checks will be accepted.
USA Musical Arts Series season pass holders may now reserve seats by contacting Events Coordinator Keith Bohnet by 5 p.m. the day prior to the event. Season pass holders should call (251) 460-7116 or (251) 460-6136. Please mention how many seats are needed, and arrive at least 20 minutes in advance of the concert.
