Adult-Geron Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program Information
This program prepares students to certify as Adult-Geron Primary Care Nurse Practitioners using a biopsychosocial model to examine relevant issues in adult and geriatric health and illness.
This program prepares masters-prepared nurse specialists in adult healthcare including integrated competencies of systems management, consultation, education, case management, program planning for adults as individuals and as aggregates, provision of primary care services to adults experiencing acute and chronic illnesses with emphasis on health promotion/disease prevention, health maintenance, health restoration, and rehabilitation needs. Enhanced content for older adults, those with multiple chronic illnesses, and veterans will be included to prepare students to care for this growing population with special needs in a true inter professional atmosphere.
Care continuum sites for Adult-Geron Primary Care Nurse Practitioner practice includes ambulatory care settings (such as rural health clinics, VA clinics, physician offices, home health), sub-acute and rehabilitation settings, palliative care, and long-term care facilities
This is an innovative program in that students who complete the program will be eligible to sit for the Adult-Geron Primary Care certification exam. In addition to preparation for the AGPCNP role, this program includes enrichment in gerontological content, multiple chronic illnesses, assessment, care and clinical experiences. This specialized content not only prepares the student for all primary care settings, but gives extra preparation for sites with elders such as long term care, geriatric clinics, or assisted living facilities.

The clinical skills intensive provides hands-on instruction for common advanced practice assessments and procedures pertinent to primary care. Instruction is provided by the USA Simulation Program.
Students must sign-up to attend one session and can select preferred dates on a first come, first serve basis. Simulation will contact students via JagMail with information on how to sign-up three months prior to the scheduled dates.
Please note the dates are for Clinical Skills Intensives only. The track coordinator may provide orientation dates, which are separate from CSI and Simulation.
