Scholarships for Transfer Students
USA offers a variety of scholarships to admitted transfer students based on criteria such as academics and academic extracurricular activities.
To ensure consideration, students must be admitted to USA by the priority deadline date for each scholarship and complete any application that is required through the JagSPOT portal. For questions about specific requirements or how to apply please contact the Office of Scholarship Services.
The Community College Transfer Scholarship is available to students transferring to USA from a two-year community college.
Qualifications:
- Minimum GPA of a 2.75 with at least 48 earned credit hours from their two year institution.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, applied for Permanent Residency, or Permanent Resident attending a U.S. Community College to be eligible.
- Must be admitted by the priority Transfer priority deadline date (October 1 for Spring and May 1 for Fall and Summer).

This scholarship qualifies as an Academic Admissions Scholarship. USA offers in-state tuition to all out-of-state students awarded an admission scholarship for academic merit.
Award is renewable for up to two years or until a first bachelor’s degree is complete, whichever occurs sooner.
Students who are admitted for summer term, prior to the May 1 priority deadline, will be considered for this scholarship with the first disbursement to begin in the fall term.
Transfer students who have been admitted into USA by the priority deadline date and meet the Scholarship requirements will be considered.
The transfer GPA that is used for scholarship consideration, is the official USA Admissions Transfer GPA. This grade point average is calculated by the Office of Admissions and is a cumulative GPA that includes all coursework taken at all previous post-secondary institutions. Earned credit hours will be calculated prior to matriculation at USA.
The USA Transfer Scholarship is a competitive award offered to students transferring from a four-year institution. To be considered for this award, students must be transferring to South from another four-year institution.
Qualifications:
- Requires a minimum GPA of a 3.0 with at least 30 earned credit hours from their previous institution.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, applied for Permanent Residency, or Permanent Resident attending a U.S. four-year university to be eligible.
- USA Transfer Scholarship application must be completed in the JagSPOT system before the posted deadline date.
- Must be admitted by the priority Transfer priority deadline date (October 1 for Spring and May 1 for Fall and Summer).

This PTK Transfer scholarship is available to Phi Theta Kappa Community College transfer students enrolling each semester.
Qualifications:
- Requires a minimum GPA of a 3.50 with at least 48 earned hours from their two-year institution (at the time of matriculation).
- Must be admitted by the priority Transfer priority deadline date (October 1 for Spring and May 1 for Fall and Summer).
- Phi Theta Kappa scholarship application must be completed in the JagSPOT system before the posted deadline date.
- Phi Theta Kappa members must also submit a verification of membership, from your PTK college advisor, during the JagSPOT application process.

The Jaguar Dream Transfer Scholarship was created to support students with unmet need. At South we want to make a four-year degree attainable for all citizens of Alabama and our Gulf Coast service area.
Qualifications:
- Must be admitted by the priority Transfer priority deadline date (October 1 for Spring and May 1 for Fall and Summer).
- Complete the FAFSA each year and exhibit unmet need.
- Must be an Alabama resident, or a resident of the USA Service Area.
- Complete the general scholarship application in JagSPOT.
There is no other application necessary. The review and award period will begin after March 1 each year and complete on or before July 1. A review of all eligibility criteria will be completed the week prior to the first day of classes. This award is renewable and may be combined with other university scholarships.
This award is renewable for up to two years or until a first bachelor’s degree is complete, whichever occurs sooner.
Students receiving University scholarships will have the award credited to their tuition and fees due each semester. Any balance from scholarships may be used to pay for associated academic costs such as books at the USA Bookstore, USA Housing and USA Food Service. Annual University scholarships are split between Fall and Spring semesters.
The ÃØÃÜÑо¿Ëù is proud to offer the Heroes award for our true heroes, the people on the front lines protecting our nation and also our safety and security at home. Although this program is listed under our transfer awards, all new part-time students are eligible for consideration. Students will complete a separate application in JagSPOT after they receive their admission decision. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain eligible for Heroes funding.

Here are the steps for applying for this prestigious award:
- For admission students can apply using this link: https://www.
southalabama.edu/departments/ . They can use our free application code for active military, HEROES.admissions/applytousa.html - Students should complete the FAFSA to be considered for the award and make sure they include our federal code, 001057.
- If admitted to South, students are directed to complete the Heroes scholarship application in JagSPOT where they will supply proof of active status in the military.
- University makes the award after we see what the student is eligible for (after Tuition Assistance and potential Pell grant).

In addition to scholarships listed above, the ÃØÃÜÑо¿Ëù offers more than 600 scholarships, many of which are based on a student’s academic discipline, leadership, other student interests or other qualifying factors.
Any awards or scholarships funded by USA are considered institutional aid. Some examples of institutional aid are admission-based scholarships, departmental awards, employee tuition assistance, housing benefits and athletic scholarships. USA reserves the right to adjust aid if a student receives multiple scholarship awards or exceeds the institutional maximum.
